Charles earns SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior Megan Charles grabbed the first SCIAC Athlete of the Week honors for Chapman in the 2016-17 women's basketball season. The weekly honor is the second of her career.

Charles led Chapman with 22 points against No. 8 George Fox in the Panthers' 77-65 loss on Sunday. The senior led the charge that brought Chapman back from an early deficit to a third quarter lead. She scored 14 of her game-high 22 points in the second half.

The guard from Tarzana, Calif., also tied for a team-best six rebounds in the game and swiped four of Chapman's 19 steals. As a team, the Panthers forced the eighth-ranked Bruins into 32 turnovers.

Charles is averaging 13.3 points per game after her 22-point outburst on Sunday. She is one of three Panthers averaging in double digits through the first three games of the year.

Chapman has played two of its first three games against top-10 opponents but is still forcing opponents into nearly 29 turnovers per game and coming up with more than 14 steals per game.

The Panthers return to the Hutton Sports Center floor on Saturday to take on Biola at 5 p.m.
