Record number of student-athletes achieve academic distinction

Chapman University student-athletes raised the bar with a record number of 220 SCIAC All-Academic selections for the 2017-18 school year. This year marks the first time in Chapman’s six-year history in the SCIAC that more than 200 Panthers were included on the All-Academic teams.

Chapman University Athletics announced its annual senior departmental awards at the jog-a-thon on Friday afternoon. The Panthers awarded male and female Scholar-Athletes of the Year awards as well as male and female Leadership Awards.

Criswell earns All-West Region distinction

After a breakout season, sophomore Lucy Criswell has been selected to the D3hoops.com All-West Region First Team. The selection comes after she won SCIAC Athlete of the Year and helped lead the Panthers to their first conference tournament championship and 13th NCAA Tournament appearance.

Women's basketball falls to No. 6 St. Thomas in First Round

The 2017-18 season came to a close for the Chapman University women’s basketball team in an 81-51 loss to No. 6 St. Thomas on Friday in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship.

After winning the SCIAC Tournament title on Saturday, the NCAA announced that the Chapman University women’s basketball team will be headed to St. Paul, Minn. To take on St. Thomas in the first round of the NCAA Division III Women’s Basketball Championship this weekend.

It needed two extra periods. Ten back-and-forth minutes. After a 70-61 double overtime battle against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, the Chapman University women’s basketball team claimed the SCIAC Postseason Tournament title for the first time in school history.

Sophomore Lucy Criswell headlined the announcement of the SCIAC women’s basketball postseason awards as the conference’s Athlete of the Year and First Team selection. She became just the second Panther to earn the honor while Chapman took home three of the four major awards.

The rubber game is set. The Chapman University women’s basketball advanced to the SCIAC Tournament championship game with a 75-52 victory over third-seeded Cal Lutheran on Thursday.

The Chapman University women’s basketball team enters the SCIAC Postseason tournament as the No. 2 seed after finishing the regular season as the SCIAC co-champions. The Panthers (21-4, 15-1 SCIAC) welcome No. 3 Cal Lutheran (15-10, 10-6 SCIAC) to Hutton Sports Center as they square up for the third time this season.

Women’s basketball wins 15th straight on senior night

The Chapman University women’s basketball team clinched at least a share of the SCIAC title with a dominant 97-69 victory over the visiting Occidental tonight. The Panthers (21-3, 15-0 SCIAC) were led by sophomore Lucy Criswell, who posted a career-high 28 points against the Tigers (11-13, 5-10 SCIAC).

A season-high point total for freshman Brittany McPherson led the Chapman University women’s basketball team to a 99-72 win over visiting La Verne on Saturday. The Panthers (20-3, 14-0 SCIAC) won their 14th game in a row and poured in a season-high point total.

For the second time this season, junior Jaryn Fajardo was selected as the SCIAC Athlete of the Week. She led the Panthers to two more victories this week, helping the squad extend their win streak to 12 games.

Head coach Carol Jue picked up her 300th career win and the Chapman University women’s basketball team won for the 12th game in a row with a 65-61 victory over visiting Cal Lutheran. Sophomore Lucy Criswell posted her third double-double of the season to lead the Panthers (18-3, 12-0 SCIAC) in the win.

Women's basketball keeps rolling with 11th straight win

January 31, 2018

Sophomore Lucy Criswell nearly set a new career-high by halftime as the Chapman University women’s basketball rolled to a 78-58 win over visiting Redlands on Wednesday. The Panthers (17-3, 11-0 SCIAC) extended their win streak to 11 games and stayed perfect in SCIAC play.

Hum-Nishikado scores 1,000th point in win over Caltech

January 27, 2018

Senior Jaime Hum-Nishikado scored her 1,000th career point in the Chapman University women’s basketball team’s 80-62 win over Caltech. Hum-Nishikado scored 12 points in the win to join the elite club of Panther women’s basketball players.
