ORANGE, Calif. – Basketball is back at the Hutton Sports Center. After 20 months away, the Chapman University women's basketball tipped off the 2021-22 season against The Master's College. The Panthers fell 77-57 in their first game back.
Senior Julianna Campas led the Panthers with 19 points securing four shots from beyond the arc, senior Brittany McPherson poured in 18 points to go along with six rebounds and three assists.
The Panthers put up a good fight in the first and were up by 10-6 with three minutes remaining in the quarter, they posted a 14-12 lead early in the second. Chapman lost momentum and was down 40-30 going into the third before reaching a deficit of only six heading into the fourth only to lose control in the final quarter.
Stephanie Soares secured 10 shots from the field for the Mustangs with Madeline Cook dishing 5 of 5 attempts. Ella Brubaker tallied three from beyond the Arc to bolster Master's lead.
The Panthers are back in Hutton tomorrow at 5 p.m. to host Linfield in the second game of the weekend. Chapman hits the road next Fri., Nov. 19 to face Wheaton at Redlands at 5 p.m.
