Women's basketball falls to CMS

ORANGE, Calif. – A fast start didn't hold as the Chapman University women's basketball team dropped its third consecutive game 62-49 to CMS.

The Panthers, who were missing a pair of starters, opened the game strong. They shot 50 percent over the first 10 minutes and used a suffocating full court press to open a 20-10 lead. However, CMS answered back in the second to take a lead at halftime as the Panthers shooting went cold.

Chapman shot just 26.7 percent in the second quarter while CMS recovered offensively. The Athenas held Chapman to just nine points and took the 30-29 lead into halftime.

A back and forth third quarter saw the Panthers tie it up heading into the fourth. However, the Panthers struggled to find its rhythm again offensively in the fourth. They shot just 1-for-11 and were held to seven points as CMS pulled away to stay undefeated in conference play.

Julia Strand scored 11 points and grabbed nine rebounds with four steals and three blocks while Mia Yamamoto scored another 11 points with six rebounds.

CMS was led by four players in double figures. Ariana Dalia scored 10 points with nine rebounds and two steals. Kayla Ishibashi scored 11 with five assists.

The Panthers head into an end of the semester break but return to the floor on Dec. 18 to take on Whitworth at 5 p.m.
