Women's golf opens up spring season on Friday

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's golf team will tee it up for the first time in 2020 when the Panthers face off against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Friday. The Panthers return five golfers to the team and add three new freshmen in the fourth season of Chapman's newest program.

In just three short years, the Panthers have made some major accomplishments. They have finished in the top half of the SCIAC in each of the last two seasons and sent an individual to the NCAA Division III Championships last spring. The Panthers were picked to finish fifth in a poll of the conference coaches.

The lone senior on the squad is Haylie Bantle, who was a member of the inaugural squad in 2016-17 and has stayed with the team all four years. She is coming off one of her best tournaments at the CA State Intercollegiate this fall.

Junior Lauren Settle rejoins the team for the spring season after missing the fall season. Settle was an All-SCIAC selection as a freshman and one of the Panthers top performers as a sophomore with an average round of 80. Sophomore Kristen Lee was the Panthers top finisher in both fall tournaments, taking fifth in the CA State Intercollegiate. She had a solid freshman season, shooting an average of 80.7.

Three freshmen will join in the mix with sophomores Sydnee Dimascio and Brooke Leet as the season gets underway. The spring schedule is highlighted by three SCIAC Tournaments that determine the champion of the conference. Chapman will host SCIAC #2 on April 4-5 at Tustin Ranch.

The Panthers first meet CMS on Friday at Via Verde Country Club in San Dimas, Calif. The first group will tee off at noon. Chapman returns to the same course at the end of the month for SCIAC #1.
