Women's lacrosse cruises to 15-3 win over Southwestern

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team scored eight goals in the first eight minutes and cruised to a 15-3 win over visiting Southwestern on Friday on Wilson Field. Sophomore Stacey Zuppa dished out four assists while three different Panthers scored at least three goals.

Junior Gretchen Rodenberger led the Panthers with four goals in the match while sophomore Becka Wachtel and Nika Darrin each scored three times. All of Rodenberger's goals came in the first half, including two that were just 24 seconds apart.

Five different Panthers got in on the scoring outburst in the first half as Chapman dominated possession. Southwestern got off just three shots in the first half and 10 in the game. Junior Tara Sonnemaker turned away both of the Pirates' shots on goal to keep them scoreless in the first half for a 12-0 Panther lead.

Chapman continued to dominate possession in the second half although Southwestern was able to find the back of the net three times to match the Panthers' three goals.

The Panthers fired off 27 shots in the match with 21 finding their way on goal. They also dominated draw controls 13-6 as they maintained a comfortable lead throughout the contest.

The Panthers will play their eighth match in a row on their home field on Tuesday when they host DePauw at 1 p.m.
