Six Panthers earn All-SCIAC honors

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team landed six selections on the All-SCIAC teams, announced today by the conference. Four Panthers earned First Team selections with two more being selected to the Second Team.

Seniors Kelsey Mackin and Dillan Watts joined juniors Stacey Zuppa and Becka Wachtel on the First Team with senior Tara Sonnemaker and sophomore Danielle Zahn earning Second Team honors.

Chapman's all-time leading scorer scored her third career All-SCIAC selection in her final season and second on the First Team. Mackin ranked second on the team with 36 goals this season and ranked seventh in the SCIAC with 23 goals in SCIAC matches despite missing the last three matches of the season. She also ranked third in the conference with eight free position goals on nine attempts. Her 124 career goals is already the most in Chapman history. She had a career-best 18 assists this year and set another school record with 158 career points.

Zuppa became Chapman's all-time assist leader this season, needing just 32 career matches to accomplish the feat. She was an All-SCIAC first team selection last year and duplicated the honor this year. Her 17 assists in SCIAC matches ranked second in the conference while her 38 points tied for the team lead and ranked third in the conference. She also ranked third with 35 draw controls and sixth with 16 caused turnovers.

Wachtel had a breakout season on the attack to propel her to her second career All-SCIAC honors. Her 2017 honors are her first time landing in the first team. He posted career-highs with 39 goals and 11 assists, leading the Panthers in goal-scoring this season. Her 31 goals in SCIAC matches ranked second in the conference. She matched her career-high with 36 ground balls this season and won a career-high 27 draw controls.

For the second season in a row, Watts was named an All-SCIAC first team defender. She caused 25 turnovers this year and ranked third with 17 caused turnovers in SCIAC matches. She has caused 87 turnovers in her four-year career, by far the most in school history.

Sonnemaker was honored for the second year in a row on the All-SCIAC team. As a three-year starter in goal, Sonnemaker has written Chapman's record book for goalkeeping. She leads the SCIAC with 10 wins this year. She made 97 saves in SCIAC matches this year with a 10.91 goals against average.

Zahn earned her first career postseason honor after a solid sophomore campaign. She scored 24 goals this season and led the Panthers with 48 ground balls. She scooped up 35 ground balls in SCIAC matches to rank third in the conference. She also had 23 draw controls and caused 15 turnovers.

The Panthers finished second in the SCIAC standings and will host Occidental in a SCIAC Tournament semifinal on Saturday at 7 p.m.
