Women's lacrosse drops home-opener to Oxy

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's lacrosse team fell 21-10 to Occidental in its home-opener on Saturday. Four Panthers scored a pair of goals in the loss.

The Panthers (0-2, 0-2 SCIAC) hung around early on and took a 3-2 lead just over five minutes into the game. However, the Tigers (3-1, 2-1 SCIAC) answered back with four straight goals to take the lead for good.

Sophomore Allie Qualman gave the Panthers the early lead with her first of two goals on the day. Oxy's Ciara Byrnes and Sierra Slack each scored seven goals to lead the Tigers. Senior Stacey Zuppa, sophomore Alexandra Callaway and sophomore Danelle Lucero each notched a pair of goals in the loss.

Occidental finished the first half on a 9-3 run after falling behind by a goal. The lead continued to build as the Tigers stayed at a comfortable distance through the second half.

The Panthers are back in action on Wednesday at Pomona-Pitzer and return home on Friday to take on Johnson & Wales at 3 p.m.
