Women's lacrosse falls in season finiale

ORANGE, Calif. – Seniors Alexandra Callaway and Danni Malinski scored three times as the Chapman University women's lacrosse team fell 14-10 to visiting George Fox in the final match of the season. The Panthers ended the shortened 2021 season with a 2-1 record.

Callaway scored the first goal on the Panthers' first possession of the match after a nice feed from senior Aisling Roberts. However, the Bruins went on to score the next two goals and never trailed again.

Chapman got the lead to 5-4 on Malinski's free position goal with just over five minutes to go but George Fox responded with a goal from Bailey Faust.

The teams combined for a flurry of three goals in less than three minutes to start the second with freshman Maya Hasenfang and Malinski pulling the Panthers back within a goal at 7-6. With the Panthers looking to tie up the match, GFU goalkeeper Ella Rand made five saves in one possession to keep her team out in front before finally picking up the groundball on the rebound to get possession back to her team.

George Fox went on to pull away for the win. Rand made 25 saves for the Bruins while the Panther defense limited George Fox to just 24 shots on goal. Senior Preetha Raj made 10 saves.

The Panthers ended the shortened 2021 season and will return in 2022 for a full season.
