Women's lacrosse falls in home finale

ORANGE, Calif. – In their final home match of the season, the Chapman University women's lacrosse team honored its six seniors in a pre-game ceremony but fell to the No. 25 Pomona-Pitzer Sagehens. The Panthers dropped their home finale 17-3.

Anna Hereu had a career-high 15 saves for the Panthers, turning away breakaway opportunities and a pair of free position shots. However, the Sagehens outshot Chapman 37-11 and forced 35 Panther turnovers.

Maggie Sweeney and Shoshi Henderson led the way for Pomona-Pitzer as Henderson found Sweeney for three consecutive goals in the first quarter to build the lead to 5-0. Elise Mayer ended the run when she won a draw control and scored less than one minute later.

Pomona-Pitzer went on to score five goals in each of the first three quarter to run its lead into double digits. Emily Allen scored a goal less than a minute before halftime and Annika Carlson found the back of the net on a free position shot in the third quarter.

Hereu made eight of her 15 saves in the second quarter and Jessica Ricketts picked up six draw controls. As a team, Chapman won 16 draw controls while the Sagehens won eight.

The Panthers finish the regular season at Occidental on Saturday at 11 a.m. The Panthers will look to clinch the No. 3 seed with a win over the Tigers, who can clinch a spot in the tournament with a win.
