Women's lacrosse wins big over Lake Forest

ORANGE, Calif. – Five goals from Mei-Lani Ferreira and a second half shutout led the Chapman University women's lacrosse team to a 21-4 victory over visiting Lake Forest. Annika Carlson also contribute four goals in the win.

The Panthers jumped out to an early lead and had the lead up to double digits just after halftime to improve to 4-1 on the season. Jessica Ricketts score 43 seconds into the match and the Panthers never trailed. They built up a 5-0 with five different players scoring a goal. Ferreira's second goal made it 6-0.

The Foresters scored two in the first and two more in the second but could not get past Anna Hereu in the second half. Hereu made five saves in the nine shots on goal she faced.

The Foresters committed 29 turnovers and were just 9-for-17 on clear attempts under the pressure of the Chapman defense. Ferreira was all over the field with five ground balls and six caused turnovers. Liv Huntley-Robertson also caused three turnovers and Ricketts picked up seven draw controls. Her 35 draw controls this season lead the SCIAC.

The Panthers allowed the Foresters to take just 12 shots with just three of those coming in the second half.

Chapman heads on the road for its next three matches before returning to Wilson Field to take on Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 7 p.m. on Mar. 29.
