Late goal pushes Chapman past East Bay
ORANGE, Calif. - With four minutes left in the game, senior M Hannah Rogers scored the game-winning goal to give the Chapman University women's soccer team a 3-2 victory over visiting Cal State East Bay on Friday night at Wilson Field. The victory ended the Panthers' short two-game losing streak.
Chapman (5-5) took a 1-0 lead in the first half on an unassisted goal by freshmen F Kate Lilly in the 33rd minute. It was Lilly's team-leading sixth goal of the year. The Pioneers answered back in the final minute of the first half on a goal by freshmen F Ariana Nobrega evening the score at 1-1 going into halftime.
The Panthers came out strong in the second half scoring within five minutes on a header by junior F Stephanie Lambrakis which was assisted by senior M Brittany Botterill. Lambrakis also assisted on the Rogers' game winner later. East Bay (6-4) rallied again as they evened the score at 2-2 on a goal by freshmen F Michelle Quintero in the 57th minute.
Chapman and East Bay played the next 30 minutes before Rogers put the game away with her goal in the 85th minute. It was her second goal of the season.
Senior GK Madison Coffin had three saves for the Panthers. East Bay took 13 shots in the game but solid Panther defense allowed the Pioneers to only put three shots on goal.
