Chapman scores early, often against Poets

ORANGE, Calif. - Six different players scored goals for the Chapman University women's soccer team as the Panthers defeated visiting Whittier College 6-2 at Wilson Field on Saturday. The six goals were a season-high for Chapman, which improved to 4-2 at home this season.

Chapman (6-7), which won for just the second time in six games, got on the board early with a goal in the fifth minute by senior M Allison O'Neill. Junior D Kim Grant scored the Panthers' second goal - a long shot from outside the 18-meter box - and freshman F Kate Lilly scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season to give the Panthers a 3-0 lead at halftime.

The Panthers again got out to a fast start with sophomore F Alicia Fraticelli scoring just 1:24 into the second half. Chapman led 5-1 after junior F Stephanie Lambrakis scored her fourth goal of the year, chipping it up and over a charging Whittier GK Lea Marie Betsworth. Lambrakis also had two assists in the game.

Whittier (0-9) snapped a five-game shutout streak, scoring in the 50th minute when Allie Nicholson found the upper-left corner of the goal. The Poets would add a second goal 17 minutes later on a penalty kick from Amanda Martinez to close the Chapman lead to 5-2.

Freshman F Gabby David sealed the victory for Chapman with her first career goal in the 83rd minute. Senior GK Emily Clark made four saves in goal for the Panthers.
