Pair of winning streaks snapped as Chapman falls to Sagehens

ORANGE, Calif. –  Returning home with an unblemished 5-0 record and top-25 national ranking, the Chapman University women's soccer team was brought back to Earth on Saturday night with a 2-1 loss to visiting Pomona-Pitzer Colleges in SCIAC action at Wilson Field. The match was the No. 25-ranked Panthers' first-ever SCIAC match at home and snapped their six-match home winning streak.

Pomona-Pitzer (2-2, 1-1) junior F Allie Tao scored the game-winner in the 58th minute, snapping a 1-1 tie. Tao took a pass from sophomore M Nicole Quilliam along the left wing, beat one defender and then dribbled and fired it past Chapman sophomore GK Marissa Fehrman for the score.

The Sagehens got on the board early with the first half's only goal in the 10th minute of play. Freshman F Ying Fry scored from about 15 yards out on a loose ball rebound to give Pomona-Pitzer a 1-0 lead. The goal was the first goal Fehrman and the Chapman defense had surrendered in four games, a span of 347 scoreless minutes. It was also just the second time the Panthers had trailed in a match this season – the only other occurrence lasted just 10 minutes against Lewis & Clark (Ore.).

Chapman knotted the score at one just 1 minute into the second half, capitalizing on three consecutive corner kicks. On the final one, senior M Karina Cisneros headed the serve from sophomore F Jordan Royer past Sagehens' freshman GK Annie Wedel for her first goal of the year.

The Panthers managed just three shots and forced Wedel to make one save. Pomona-Pitzer meanwhile took eight shots, but none other than the two goals were on frame.
