Chapman athletes recognized on SCIAC All-Academic teams

Chapman University student-athletes were well-represented during the 2013-14 academic year as the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference named its All-Academic teams by sport. Leading the way for the Panthers was women’s soccer, which garnered a conference-best 14 honorees.
Sobol leads Panthers to team academic award

Capping off one of the most decorated careers in Chapman University women’s soccer history, senior M Val Sobol earned Scholar All-West Region honors from the National Soccer Coaches Association of America. Her first team selection paved the way for a Panthers team that combined to post a 3.45 grade point average, earning its first NSCAA Collegiate Team Academic Award since 2003.
Five Panthers named to All-SCIAC women's soccer team

A quintet of Chapman University women’s soccer players were named to the 2013 All-SCIAC Women's Soccer team Wednesday by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. The Panthers tallied the second most selections in the conference following a 10-10-1 season that led to their second-straight conference postseason tournament appearance.

Unable to muster any offense, the Chapman University women’s soccer team was eliminated from the SCIAC Postseason Tournament on Thursday, dropping a 1-0 decision to the top-ranked Cal Lutheran Regals at William Rolland Stadium in Thousand Oaks.

An offensive outburst in the second half clinched a postseason berth for the Chapman University women’s soccer team, who defeated La Verne 3-1 on Saturday at Wilson Field. The victory gives the reigning champion Panthers a chance to defend their SCIAC postseason tournament title in a match up against first-place Cal Lutheran on Wednesday.
Pomona-Pitzer hat-trick leads to 3-1 Panthers loss

Since defeating Pomona-Pitzer in the conference championship match a season ago, the Chapman University women’s soccer team has twice failed to repeat their success, dropping a 3-1 decision to the Sagehens on Wednesday at Wilson Field. Sagehens M Allie Tao collected her first hat-trick of the season, providing more than enough offense to earn her team the season sweep of the Panthers.

The Chapman University women’s soccer team got back to its winning ways at home, defeating visiting Whittier College 4-0 at Wilson Field on Saturday night and putting some much-needed distance between itself and a slew of SCIAC teams competing for the fourth spot in the standings.
Redlands catches a break in 2-1 win over Chapman

For the second time this season, the Chapman University women’s soccer team suffered a tough loss at the hands of the Redlands Bulldogs, falling 2-1 at Wilson Field on Wednesday. The loss, which came less than one month after Redlands earned a 1-0 overtime victory, marked the Panthers’ sixth straight loss to the Bulldogs.

Late penalty proves costly in Panthers' 1-1 tie with Santa Cruz

In its last non-conference match of the season, the Chapman University women’s soccer team tied the UC Santa Cruz Banana Slugs, 1-1 at Wilson Field on Monday night. A late red card penalty by GK Marissa Fehrman left the door open for the Slugs to even the game in the 78th minute, but the short-handed Panthers held off Santa Cruz in two overtime periods to earn the tie.

The Chapman University women’s soccer team lost a tough battle on Saturday, falling 1-0 after competing against both the Cal Lutheran Regals and the elements. Strong gusts of wind affected the entire match and played a role in the contest’s only goal, snapping the Panthers’ home winning streak at eight games (dating back to last season).

The Chapman University women’s soccer team shut out host Whittier College 3-0 on Wednesday evening, giving head coach Courtney Calderon her 100th career head coaching victory – all at Chapman. In her 10th season as the Panthers’ head coach, Calderon is the first coach in Chapman’s women’s soccer history to reach the 100-win milestone.

In a rematch of last year’s dramatic SCIAC playoff match, the Chapman University women’s soccer team came through with another thrilling finish, defeating the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Athenas, 1-0 at Wilson Field on Wednesday. Freshman F Rosie Kerstetter netted her third game-winning goal of the season in the 81st minute to seal the Panthers’ victory in their first SCIAC match of the season.

No longer the newcomer in a strong conference, the Chapman University women’s soccer team will enter the 2013 season with a target on their backs after securing the school’s first-ever SCIAC tournament championship a season ago. The Panthers will begin their title defense on Saturday as they travel to Mills for an 11 a.m. showdown with the Cyclones.
