Panthers break three-game losing streak in double overtime

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team snapped their three-game losing streak on Saturday in a double overtime draw with the University of Redlands in a 1-1 match at Wilson Field.

The Panthers (6-6-1 overall, 2-5-1 SCIAC) tied the game 1-1 on in the 54th minute when senior F Rebeccah Bortz scrored off of a pass from the right corner from sophomore F Kourtney Kingsmore.

The Bulldogs (6-4-1 overall, 4-3-1 SCIAC) struck first, scoring in the 41st minute to take the lead over the Panthers 1-0 entering the second half. Junior F Jen Franklin scored on a pass up the middle from senior F Amy Pumputis. Franklin's goal was the third goal that sophomore GK Kristin Kleinow has allowed against Redlands this season.

The Panther defense stepped up in a big way allowing only eight shots on goal on Saturday. This gave Redlands nine less opportunities to score then in their previous match this season in which Redlands had taken 17 shots resulting in a 2-1 loss for Chapman.

Looking to break a four-game winless streak, the Panthers will host Occidental College Wednesday Oct. 15 on Wilson Field at 4 p.m.
