Three Panthers named to All-SCIAC Women's Soccer team

ORANGE, Calif.– A trio of Chapman University women's soccer players were named to the 2014 SCIAC All-Conference Women's Soccer Team Wednesday as selected by the coaches. Sophomore GK Kristin Kleinow headlined the Panthers' All-Conference class, earning first team selection, meanwhile junior M Haley Fedden and senior F Rebeccah Bortz earned second team honors.

Kleinow led the SCIAC with 114 saves in 19 games and ranked third in saves percentage at .814. The goalie allowed just 26 goals this season for a goals-against average of 1.32. The sophomore recorded five shutouts, including two against Whittier College for a record of 8-9-2 this season. After just two seasons Kleinow ranks third in total career saves in Chapman history with 153.  

For the second year in a row, Fedden was named to the All-SCIAC team, earning second team honors after scoring a goal and two assists while anchoring the Chapman midfield. Fedden played 1,685 minutes this season and now ranks third on the all-time career list with 5,183 minutes played.  

Bortz led the Panther offense this season scoring six goals, including two game-winning goals against Lewis & Clark and George Fox during Chapman's opening weekend. The senior started 18 of 19 matches and had a shots on goal percentage of .639 (23-36) during her 1,286 minutes of play. The forward ranks in the top 15 on Chapman's all-time scoring list with 20 goals and 10 assists for 50 points.  

The Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference was established in 1915. The league is currently comprised of nine private colleges and universities in Southern California: California Institute of Technology, California Lutheran University, Chapman University, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges, University of La Verne, Occidental College, Pomona-Pitzer Colleges, University of Redlands, and Whittier College. The conference recognizes outstanding athletic achievements of its student-athletes on a weekly and annual basis.
