D3 Week Student-Athlete Profile: Celina Solomon, Soccer

Celina Solomon – Senior
Women's Soccer
3.56 GPA, Athletic Training
Two-time All-SCIAC Academic honoree

To be a center-midfielder in soccer you have to have a keen sense of field awareness, with eyes at the top of the field as well as in the back of your head. Makes sense that Celina is the multi-tasker she is on and off the field, and this semester she's doing it in a foreign land – studying abroad in South Africa.

Here's our Q&A with Celina:

Why did you choose to come to Chapman and be an athlete?
I knew if I came to Chapman to be an athlete I would get an extremely well-rounded college experience. Chapman offers me with an intense but manageable athletic career and the opportunity to study Athletic Training at the same time. The women on the Chapman soccer team have always stood for more than just soccer players, which got me interested immediately when I came to check out the school and the team. All members of WSCR take pride in their involvement in other school and community activities, academics, and athletics, which is unique from other Division III programs.

What do you like most about the balance in Division III between academics and athletics?
The balance between DIII athletics and academics is very important to me and had a lot to do with my decision to play at Chapman. My major is very demanding and requires certain amount of clinical hours outside of schoolwork during the year. Chapman has allowed me to play the game I love while still being able to put in the time I need for my major.

What unique opportunities has Chapman provided for you in your studies?
Chapman has set me up with an internship every semester since Fall of my sophomore year, and also allowed me to study abroad in South Africa this semester. I could not ask for better opportunities or experiences to prepare me for whatever I do in the future.

What do you hope to do after graduation?
I hope to attend graduate school and get a Master's in Athletic Training after I finish my undergraduate degree.
