Women's soccer snaps slide with shutout of Slugs

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer shutout UC Santa Cruz 2-0 to snap its recently losing streak. The Panthers (5-8) dominated possession for the majority of the contest while junior Kristin Kleinow turned in her second clean sheet of the season.

Chapman struck in the 26th minute to take an early lead after peppering early shots at UCSC's net. A corner kick was batted around in the box until sophomore Emily Watts was able to control the bouncing ball and put it past the keeper in the lower right corner.

The Panthers continued to send shots toward the net, outshooting the Banana Slugs (3-8-2) 18-6 in the match. Kleinow was tested twice in the first half but was equal to the task with a pair of diving saves. She made a third as time expired in the second half.

Junior Julia Diaz gave the Panthers some breathing room when she was able to get a touch around a defender and beat the keeper one-on-one in the 56th minute.

The Panthers are back at home on Wednesday to host Occidental as they jump back into SCIAC play.
