Bradbury's late goal lifts Panthers

ORANGE, Calif. – Freshman Jordyn Bradbury struck late to lift the Chapman University women's soccer team to a 1-0 win over Redlands on Saturday. The Panthers posted their second shutout of the season and improved to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the SCIAC.

In a match that saw the Panthers hit the crossbar twice, Bradbury was finally able to find the netting in the 88th minute. Chapman played a ball over the top, which led to a foot race between Bradbury and the Redlands' keeper.

Hannah Menk came way out of the box and was able to get a touch on the ball but Bradbury deflected her clearance attempt in stride. With one kick strike, she sent a shot into the open net from distance with just 2:50 left on the clock. The Panthers held off Redlands the rest of the way for their first conference win of the season.

Redlands (1-4, 0-2 SCIAC) pressed early but Chapman was able to work back into the flow of the match without surrendering a goal. Both teams had opportunities in the first half but neither was able to find the back of the net. Senior Kristin Kleinow mad both of her saves in the first half to post her second shutout.

Menk made three saves for Redlands but the Panthers hit the crossbar twice. Bradbury hit the piping in the 35th minute and Ashley Carney hit the crossbar again in the 55th minute. The Bulldogs held an 8-4 shot advantage in the first half but an inspired Panther attack took an 11-4 shot advantage in the second half.

The Panthers are back at home on Wednesday to face Cal Lutheran at 4 p.m. on Wilson Field.
