Women's soccer suffers 2-0 loss to Pomona-Pitzer

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team fell 2-0 to visiting Pomona-Pitzer on Wednesday at Wilson Field. Senior Kristin Kleinow extended her school record for career saves to 268 with nine in the contest.

Both of the visiting Sagehens' goals came in the first half. Danika Bethune was played behind the defense and took advantage of the one-on-one situation with the first goal of the match.

Chapman (4-4-1, 1-3-1 SCIAC) slowly gained some momentum as the half wore on, firing six shots over the next 23 minutes. However, the Sagehens (5-1-2, 3-0-2 SCIAC) gained it all back when a counter attack led to another favorable opportunity and Peri Cuppens buried her shot for a 2-0 Pomona-Pitzer lead.

The Panthers put three of their six shots on goal in the first half and fired off eight more shots in the second half but couldn't find the back of the net. Pomona-Pitzer shot 10 times in the second half but was denied a third goal by six second-half saves from Kleinow.

Freshman Jordyn Bradbury nearly cut the lead in half in the 74th minute but two defenders swarmed to the open Bradbury before she could get a touch into the open net.

Chapman is on the road for its next two matches at La Verne on Saturday and at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps next Wednesday before returning home to face Whittier at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8.
