Cochran's two goals clinches tournament spot for women's soccer

ORANGE, Calif. – Freshman Bailee Cochran had her first career multiple goal match to lead the Chapman University women's soccer team to a 2-0 win over La Verne.The win helped clinch a tournament spot for the Panthers (9-7-1, 6-6-1 SCIAC).

Chapman clinched the No. 4 seed in next week's SCIAC Tournament with the win as Whittier lost at CMS and Occidental drew at Cal Lutheran.

Cochran scored her first goal in the 39th minute to go Chapman the lead just before halftime. Senior Emmy Hoskins played a long pass from midfield into the box. Cochran beat her defender in a sprint into space and put one touch on the ball past the diving keeper.

Cochran struck again in the 67th minute as she fired a shot just under the crossbar for the 2-0 Chapman lead.

The Panthers dominated the match, controlling most of the possession. Chapman outshot La Verne 26-5 in the match as senior Kristin Kleinow needed to make just three saves to get her career-best sixth shutout of the season.

Chapman wraps up its regular season on Saturday with an 11 a.m. match against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wilson Field.
