Women's soccer undefeated through first week of 2021 season

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team completed an undefeated first week of the season with a 2-0-1 record. The Panthers played all three matches on the road, outscoring opponents 4-1.

Senior Riley Pidgeon was the lone goal scorer on Wednesday's 1-0 win over Whittier on the opening day of the season. Chapman held a 24-7 shot advantage in the match. Senior Kelsey Bland made four saves to keep the Poets off the scoreboard.

The Panthers went north for a pair of matches in Santa Cruz, Calif., over the weekend. After playing to a 0-0 draw with Whitman on Friday. The Panthers scored three times in the second half against the host, UC Santa Cruz, to come home with the 3-1 comeback win.

Senior Cate Combi assisted on classmate Jessi Roux's game-tying goal just less than three minutes into the second half and scored the insurance goal in the 73rd minute. Junior Lily Jose buried a penalty kick in the 62nd minute for the game-winner. Chapman outshot the Banana Slugs 19-4 in the contest with Bland making a pair of saves.

The Panthers first home match is on Wednesday when Cal Lutheran visits at 4 p.m.
