Bauman, Nestor score career firsts in win over Caltech

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team picked up its first SCIAC win of the season with a 3-0 victory over Caltech on Saturday. Stella Bauman scored  her first two career goals to lead the Panthers to the win.

Jenna Urrabazo connected with Bauman twice in less than three minutes to put the Panthers up two. In the 26th minute, Urrabazo beat the keeper to a long pass in the box and tapped a pass over to Bauman, who finished into an open net.

Just less than three minutes late, Urrabazo sent a cross into a wide open Bauman. She tucked in a shot just inside the far post to take a 2-0 lead.

The Panthers continued to dominate possession throughout the match, taking 23 shots and holding the Beavers to two. Sophia Steven made seven saves in the second half to keep Caltech in it.

Chaslyn Nestor was the only one to beat Steven when she ripped a shot from nearly 35 yards out and dropped it just under the crossbar for her first career goal.

The Panthers picked up their first SCIAC win and ended their seven-match winless streak. Chapman travels to Redlands on Wednesday but returns to Wilson Field to host Whittier on Oct. 15 at 11 a.m.
