Women's soccer plays to Senior Day draw

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's soccer team closed out its season with a 1-1 tie against Cal Lutheran on Saturday. The Panthers honored their five seniors before the match: Sarah Connolly, Emily McHorney, Shannon Coyle, Lily Jose and Olivia Lowe.

The Panthers fell behind just 10:36 into the match on a goal from Elisa Shott for Cal Lutheran. Chapman pushed forward and earned a free kick just inside the midfield line in the 28th minute.

After being initially headed away, Alyssa Hernandez volleyed a pass across the box to Chaslyn Nestor. Without turning, Nestor flicked a shot over her shoulder with her left foot and it found its way inside the post for an equalizing goal.

The second half saw the Regals dominate possession but Maia Mills and the Chapman defenders were up to the task. Mills made five saves in the match and withstood nine second half shots from Cal Lutheran while Chapman managed just one. Overall, the Regals finished the night with a 17-6 shot advantage but found the back of the net just once.

The Panthers season comes to a close with an overall record of 4-7-6 and a record of 2-4-6 for a sixth place finish in the SCIAC. Chapman's six draws in 2022 are the most in program history – one more than the previous program-high set in 1988.
