Coyle first from Chapman to receive NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship

ORANGE, Calif. – Recent graduate Shannon Coyle has been named a recipient of the prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. She is the first graduate of Chapman University to win the coveted scholarship.

The former women's soccer defender is just one of 21 recipients from women's sports across all three divisions of the NCAA for fall sports. The one-time scholarships of $10,000 are awarded to student who excel both academically and athletically and are in their final year of athletics competition.

Coyle will immediately be putting her scholarship to use as she pursues a master's degree in prosthetics and orthotics at the University of Washington next fall.

She was a Team Captain for the women's soccer team and was the Vice President of Chapman's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. A leader on and off the field.

Her journey at Chapman started with a game-winning goal against national-ranked MIT early in the 2019 season. Coyle's goal was one of just four allowed by the Engineers all season. Her work on the defensive end also aided in the shutout victory for Chapman, handing MIT its only loss of the year.

After the lost season due to the pandemic, Coyle suffered a season-ending injury just two games into the 2021 season. She was able to return as a senior in 2022, starting in 13 games on Chapman's back line.

Coyle was also a four-time SCIAC All-Academic with a superb GPA all four years.
