Hammer, Saunders pick up wins in loss to CNU

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior Andrea Hammer and junior Madeline Saunders accounted  for all three of the Chapman University women's tennis team's points in a 6-3 loss to Christopher Newport on Tuesday. The duo teamed up for the Panthers first doubles win of the season.

At the top of the lineup, Hammer and Saunders came away with an 8-6 doubles win to start the match. CNU captured both the No. 2 and No. 3 matches to grab the early lead.

Saunders quickly won her No. 2 singles match 6-2, 6-1 but it wasn't quite enough for the Panthers to comeback for the team win. CNU won matches 3-6 in straight sets without dropping a game in three of the matches. Hammer split her first two sets but won the third-set tiebreaker to get her first singles win of the year 6-4, 0-6, 1-0 (10-8).

The Panthers are back at the Anaheim Hills Racquet Club on Friday for a 1 p.m. match with Mary Washington.
