Saunders wins again as women's tennis ends nonconference slate

ORANGE, Calif. – Madeline Saunders continued to be a bright spot for the Chapman University women's tennis team but the Panther fell 8-1 to visiting Lewis & Clark on Wednesday. Saunders improved to 5-4 on the year in the No. 2 slot.

Saunders 6-3, 6-4 win was the Panthers lone point of the match as the Pios captured all three doubles points and won four singles matches in straight sets.

Andrea Hammer pushed the No. 1 match to a third set tiebreaker but fell 6-4, 5-7, 1-0 (10-8) as the Pios won the final point.

Saunders and Hammer had a six-match winning streak in the top doubles spot for the Panthers but have lost their last two to Bowdoin and Lewis & Clark. They 5-4 overall.

After a busy month of March at home, the Panthers begin their SCIAC schedule on the road at Occidental on Saturday.
