Women's tennis swept by fifth-ranked Sagehens

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team fell 9-0 to fifth-ranked Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday at the Anaheim Hills Racquet Club. The Sagehens took all six singles points in straight sets.

Andrea Hammer and Madeline Saunders challenged the Sagehens top doubles team but came up just shy with an 8-5 loss in the No. 1 doubles match. Pomona-Pitzer took the next two matches 8-1.

Sophomore Thimanthi Withana made Lucy Jiang work in the No. 5 match, pushing her to a 6-4 first set but ultimately fell in straight sets.

The Panthers will not play Friday's scheduled match against Whittier as the Poets have forfeited the rest of their team matches this season. Chapman travels to Redlands next Saturday.
