Women's tennis defeats Principa 7-2 for first win

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team won its first match of the season with a 7-2 victory over Principia on Monday. The Panthers won five of six singles matches after winning two of the three doubles matches.

Sophomore Nicole Fouts and freshman Raven Hampton begane the match with a dominant 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Sophomores Danielle Simmons and Brenda Salome gave Chapman the edge with an 8-3 win in the No. 3 doubles match. Principa took the top doubles match 8-4.

Senior Madeline Saunders avenged the doubles loss with a straight set win in the top singles match – 6-3, 6-2. Fouts cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 and Hampton won easily 6-0, 6-2 at No. 4. Freshman Jaye Orikasa took the No. 3 match 7-5, 6-1. Salome's 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 6 completed the team victory.

Principia's Anh Vu captured her team's second point with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5.

The Panthers jump back into SCIAC play on Saturday when they host Occidental at the Racquet Club of Irvine at 4:30 p.m.
