Women's tennis returns against nationally-ranked APU

AZUSA, Calif. – After nearly a year away, the Chapman University women's tennis team was back on the court to officially start the 2021 season. The Panthers fell to 7-0 to Azusa Pacific, which is ranked No. 11 in the NCAA Division II.

The Panthers began a seven-match schedule for the 2021 season against the highly-ranked Cougars in Azusa, Calif. Freshmen Olivia Desso made her Chapman debut, playing with sophomore Tatum Phillips at the top of the doubles lineup and in the No. 4 singles match.

Phillips also played at No. 1 singles but fell 6-3, 6-2. Sophomore Aliya Allyn played at No. 2 and senior Madison Ross played at No. 3. Seniors Vasilisa Trofimova and Delara Fotovatjah rounded out the singles lineup at No. 5 and No. 6, respectively. The Cougars took all six singles matches in straight sets.

Chapman is back on the court on March 14 when it travels to Cal State Fullerton for an 11 a.m. match against the Division I Titans. The Panthers first home match is on April 3 when they take on Cal Lutheran in the first of a four-match SCIAC series.
