Golin wins backdraw at fall tournament

ORANGE, Calif. – Freshman Alexis Golin began her career for the Chapman University women's tennis team with a run through the backdraw at the ITA Division III West Regionals. Golin won the consolation bracket to lead the Panthers at the annual fall tournament.

After dropping her first match, Golin responded with back-to-back straight set victories to breeze through the bracket. He won 6-2, 6-0 and 6-1, 6-0 to advance into the semifinals. An injury to her opponent gave her an automatic bid into the finals where she again won in straight sets. Her 6-4, 6-3 victory in the finals gave her the consolation bracket title of Flight A.

Sophomore Olivia Desso pulled off an upset in Flight B to start the tournament and advanced into the semifinals before being eliminated. After a 2-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (10-8) battle to pull off the upset, Desso won her second round match 6-1, 6-0. She took another set in a tiereaker in the quarterfinals before her opponent retired with an injury. She fell 6-3, 6-2 in the semis.

Desso and freshman Goldie La also paired up for the only doubles victories for Chapman at the fall tournament. The pair win 8-6 and then 8-5 to move into the quarterfinals before being eliminated. La went 1-1 in her singles matches.

Junior Aliya Allyn went 1-2 in singles, winning her first match in the backdraw.

The Panthers began and ended their fall season at the ITA Regional and will return for the dual season in the spring of 2022.
