Women's tennis falls to Mary Washington

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's tennis team fell 5-4 to visiting Mary Washington on Monday for its first loss of the season. All four Panther points came in singles matches.

The Eagles swept the doubles to take a 3-0 advantage in the match. Junior Aliya Allyn quickly grabbed a point for Chapman in the No. 1 match, winning 6-0, 6-1. Lucy Erickson also won in straight sets in the No. 4 match – 6-1, 6-2.

Mary Washington grabbed a quick point in the No. 6 match and won 6-2, 6-3 in the No. 3 match to clinch the team victory. Katherine Monroy forced a third set in the No. 5 match and then took the point when her opponent retired after the first game. Olivia Desso split the first two sets and played a marathon tiebreaker before eventually grabbing the 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (16-14) win.

Chapman is back at the Anderson Tennis Center to take on Holy Names on Mar. 10 at 1 p.m.
