Women's tennis back in SCIAC tourney, first time since 2018
ORANGE, Calif. — Women's tennis clinched its first SCIAC tournament berth since 2018 and will take on Claremont-M-S on Friday, April 28 in Claremont.
Here are some things you need to know about the upcoming match.
Dominant Desso
Olivia Desso has had a spectacular season in both doubles and singles matches. She is 9-5 in her singles contests and 8-6 in doubles, both marks are the best on the team.
She has notable doubles wins over No. 16 Caltech and No. 15 Redlands. She also won a clutch match to help clinch the Caltech victory, which earned Chapman its spot in the SCIAC tournament.
Tricky 'Thenas
The CMS Athenas are ranked No. 2 in the nation, only behind the University of Chicago, although they defeated the Maroons in the national championship last season.
The Panthers haven't bested the Athenas since 2008, but have put up a fight against them in recent history, losing 5-2 in the NCAA tournament in 2011.
Chapman, 11-6, are having their best season, record-wise, since 2014 when the squad went 13-8.
