Hope International can't slow Chapman in nonconference matchup

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's volleyball team trailed on just three points the entire match as they cruised to a three-set win over Hope International University on Tuesday night at the Hutton Center in a nonconference matchup. Chapman won 25-17, 25-15, 25-16 to earn its ninth win in its last 11 matches while Hope International has dropped 10 of its last 11. Chapman (15-4, 8-1) built a 10-3 lead in the first set behind the play of senior MB Kate Ferrin who had three of her 13 kills in the match during the stretch. An attack error by senior OH Ashleigh Gideon allowed Hope International to get within two points at 12-10 which as close as they would get in the first set. Chapman outscored Hope International 13-7 in the remainder of the set to take a 1-0 lead. Gideon had nine kills and 11 digs on the night.

Hope International (3-13, 1-6) led early in the second set 2-1 after an attack error by Ferrin. Chapman then ran off four straight points with kills from Ferrin, junior RS McKenna Roice and a service ace by junior OH Jenny Gibson to take a 5-2 lead, a lead which they would hold on to and build to as many as 10 points in the second set.

The third set saw Hope International hold a slight lead a little later into the set at 6-5 after a kill by freshman OH Kaylee Hagey. Chapman quickly took control by going on an 8-1 run to take a 13-7 lead after a kill by senior MB Laura Posada.
