Record performance earns Geiger SCIAC Athlete of the Week again

ORANGE, Calif. – Junior MB Val Geiger led the first-place Chapman University volleyball team in come-from-behind victories over Claremont and Redlands to earn SCIAC Female Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season. The 2012 AVCA All-America selection tallied 62 kills, including a school record 36 kills in Saturday's five-set win over Redlands to become the first SCIAC athlete this season to take home multiple weekly recognitions.

Geiger hit .438 in her record-setting match against Redlands, averaging six kills per set. The middle blocker clinched the win for the Panthers with 15 kills in the last two sets, including the final two points in the fifth set that broke a 13-13 tie. Her 62 kills on the week improve her season total to a SCIAC-leading 260, outpacing her closest competition by 58 kills.
