Geiger earns second straight AVCA All-America selection

ORANGE, Calif. – Notching her second-straight clean sweep of postseason awards, Chapman University junior Val Geiger was selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-America third team in an announcement made by the AVCA on Tuesday. The honor marks Geiger's second selection to the illustrious team and follows selections to both the All-SCIAC and AVCA All-West Region first teams.

Geiger put together the most impressive offensive campaign in school history, leading the conference and setting a Chapman record with 489 kills and a .366 hitting percentage in 28 matches (109 sets) this season. She was at her best against SCIAC foes, where she averaged 4.85 kills per set, including a school record-breaking performance against Redlands on Sept. 21 when she tallied 36 kills in a single match.

The junior, who has tallied 925 career kills, ranked No. 7 in Division III with 4.49 kills per set while her .366 hitting percentage placed her in the top-25 in the nation. She tallied 20 or more kills in 12 matches this season and is just 75 kills shy of 1,000 in her career.

The middle-blocker did more than just eat up points this season as she led the Panthers with 56 total blocks, including 27 solo blocks that placed second in the conference.
