Volleyball ends Sagehens five-game winning streak at home

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's volleyball team ended Pomona-Pitzer's five-game winning streak in a 3-2 victory over the Sagehens on Friday. The Panthers move to 4-3 overall and 1-0 SCIAC with tonight's five-set victory 25-17, 25-22, 24-26, 22-25, 15-6 at the Hutton Sports Center.

Chapman battled closely with Pomona-Pitzer in both the first and second sets, even earning a come-back victory in set two with a 25-22 win. The Panthers earned their third win dominating the fifth set 15-6.

Pomona-Pitzer (5-1 overall, 1-1 SCIAC) rallied in the third set to win a closely-contested battle 26-24, recording 17 of the team's kills in the set. The Sagehens rallied on to take set four 25-21 after two long scoring runs.

Three Sagehens reached double digits in kills, led by Sarah Gamble who recorded 18 kills and earned 10 digs. Stephanie Hun tallied 15 kills and 11 digs while teammate Emma Burdekin recorded 11 kills.

Sophomore OH Kylie Cooke earned a career-best of 20 kills while senior OH Michele Hammer earned a double-double with 14 kills and 11 digs. Junior libero Jade Santos led the passing game with 28 digs and freshman setter Kaitlyn Raymundo tallied a career-high of 49 assists.  

The Panthers will host Redlands Saturday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. in the Hutton Sports Center. Chapman will then travel to Pomona-Pitzer on Tuesday, Sept. 22 for a rematch with the Sagehens beginning at 7:30 p.m.
