Volleyball earns USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's volleyball team continued to excel academically and was rewarded with the United States Marine Corps and the American Volleyball Coaches Association's Team Academic Award for 2020-21.

Despite the team's season being cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Panthers put together an impressive 3.504 team GPA. Earlier this week, 14 of the 20 student-athletes on the roster were recognized as SCIAC All-Academic.

The academic recognition marks the eighth year in a row that the Panthers have earned the award. Chapman was one of 233 NCAA Division III women's programs to earn the distinction, which was a new record for the number of program's recognized.

Both male and female teams from every level of high school and college volleyball can earn the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award with a minimum of a 3.3 team GPA. In total, over 1200 programs were recognized.

The Panthers are planning a return to the court for a full 2021 season, beginning with the Pacific Coast Classic on Sep. 3-4.
