Helgeson honored for third time, Kenison gets first All-SCIAC nod

ORANGE, Calif. –Senior Cat Helgeson and junior Julin Kenison were selected to the All-SCIAC teams, announced on Monday by the conference. Helgeson was honored for the third time in three years and Kenison finished her first season with Second Team honors.

When Helgeson came to Chapman in the fall of 2019, she immediately jumped into the starting lineup and was recognized as the SCIAC Newcomer of the Year. After the COVID cancelled 2020 season, she was named the First Team libero in 2021. She duplicated that honor in her senior season to make it a clean career sweep with SCIAC honors.

Helgeson led the SCIAC with 280 digs and 5.09 digs per set in conference play. She served up 14 aces and also had 64 assists. She ended her career with 1535 digs – the second-most in Chapman's Division III history. She also finished on a high note, compiling a career-best 38 digs in a reverse sweep of Whittier in the second to last game of the season.

Kenison led the Chapman attack and ranked second in the SCIAC with 3.25 kills per set in conference play. The outside hitter from Shingle Springs, Calif., also had 2.54 digs per set to rank in the top-20 in the conference. Her 3.5 points per set ranked fourth in the SCIAC. She transferred to Chapma this year and made an immediate impact with four double-doubles in digs and kills. She had double digit kills in four of her last five matches, including a season-best 18  kills in a four-set win at Caltech.

The Panthers finished the 2022 season in fifth place in the SCIAC, going 7-9 in SCIAC matches and 9-15 overall.
