Panthers fall to Santa Cruz; Huling sets goalie mark

ORANGE, Calif. -  Despite battling back from an early deficit to even the score in the second quarter, the Chapman University women's water polo team was unable to extend its winning streak through the weekend. The Panthers fell 13-6 to No. 5-ranked U.C. Santa Cruz in Saturday's home game at Allred Aquatics Center.

Sophomore goalie Celia Huling made 12 saves in the game to give her 254 this season - a new Chapman record. It was the tenth time this season Huling has recorded 10 or more blocks in a game.

Chapman (8-17) evened the score at 3-3 just minutes into the second quarter, but it was not enough to break through Santa Cruz's defense which never trailed throughout the course of the game.

Chapman attempted to rally back with as freshman driver Brianna O'Keefe scored with 3:18 remaining in the third quarter. Panther 2-meters freshman Sarah Lee and senior Sabrina Cook followed, adding a goal apiece in the fourth. Ultimately it was the Slugs' offense which prevailed; finishing off the game with four goals in the final quarter, two by senior 2-meter Jaisy Hanson.
