Water polo overpowered as they drop two games

ORANGE, Calif. - Losses to Cal State University, San Bernardino and Santa Clara University on Saturday at the Allred Aquatics Center dropped the Chapman University women's water polo team back below .500 on the season. The Panthers have struggled through their first six games as several games so far have been played against top-level NCAA Division I and Division II competition as was the case today.

Game 1: CSU San Bernardino 16, Chapman University 10
In the first game of the day, Chapman lost against Cal State University San Bernardino, 16-10. Sophomore driver Briana O'Keefe scored the first goal at 5:42 in the first quarter, to give Chapman a 1-0 lead.

The Coyotes then scored six consecutive goals over the next several minutes to take a 6-1 lead. Chapman freshman utility Rachel Graham scored back-to-back goals in the second quarter closing San Bernardino's lead to 6-3. At halftime, the Coyotes led 9-5.

San Bernardino distanced itself in the third quarter keeping Chapman (2-3) scoreless throughout the entire quarter as it built a lead of 14-5. Misty Vu, freshman utility for the Coyotes, scored two of her game-high four goals in the third quarter during the 5-0 Coyote run.

Chapman sophomore 2M Arielle Worthington and freshman utility Samantha Martin each scored two goals in the final quarter to get the Panthers back in the game. O'Keefe scored Chapman's final goal with: 27 left in the fourth quarter to end the game 16-10.

Game 2: Santa Clara University 16, Chapman University 2
Santa Clara (9-8) didn't wait long to get the scoring started as senior utility Rochelle Stowe scored just 15 seconds into the game. The Broncos followed with four more goals by four different players as they built a 5-0 second quarter lead.

Chapman (2-4) got its first goal of the game from Martin who scored with 5:30 remaining in the second quarter, narrowing Santa Clara's lead to 5-1. The Broncos then ran off nine-straight goals, holding the Panthers scoreless until 5:21 in the fourth quarter when freshman driver Ani Marganian scored. The Broncos 16 goals were scored by 10 different players.
