Season-high 22 goals gives water polo another home win

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's water polo team won a slugfest 22-13 against the University of Utah club team on Friday afternoon at the Allred Olympic Pool. The Panthers' 22 goals equal their season-high as the two teams combined for 35 scores in the game.

Chapman (9-6) scored seven goals in each of the second and third quarters to pad its offensive numbers and improved to 5-2 at home this season.

The Panthers led 12-6 at halftime, before Utah would rally in the third quarter cutting the Chapman lead to two twice. Hanging on to a 13-11 lead with 4:23 left in the period, Chapman scored seven consecutive goals to stretch its lead to 20-11 with 5:40 left in the game including two goals from sophomore driver Julie Case.

Junior utility Sam Martin led all scorers with five goals, including four in the first half. Junior driver Sami McLaughlin added four goals and four assists. Ten different Panthers scored goals including a pair by sophomore utility Juliana Botting who pitched in four helpers as well.

Freshman goalie Kirsten Spicer made nine saves in goal for Chapman.

The Panthers jump right back in on Saturday when they host George Washington University (DC) at the Allred Olympic Pool at 4 p.m.
