Nine score as Chapman beats Vanguard for second time this year

ORANGE, Calif. – A day after the Chapman University women's water polo team's offense failed to show up in a loss to Claremont, the team put together its second-highest offensive output of the season in a 16-6 win over Vanguard University on Saturday afternoon at the Allred Aquatics Center. A total of nine different players scored for Chapman with 15 of the team's 16 goals assisted by another player. Ten different players registered an assist for Chapman which now needs just one win to secure its first winning season since 2004.

Just 45 seconds into the game, junior utility Sam Martin got Chapman on the board. Sophomore utility Juliana Botting followed with a pair of goals 30 seconds apart to push Chapman's lead to 3-0 at the 4:32 mark of the first quarter. Vanguard (2-12) answered with two goals of its own by freshman utility Grace Konstanzer which made the score 3-2 with 1:50 in the opening quarter.

Chapman (13-9) then went on a 4-0 run over a six minute span to open up its lead to 7-2 as four different players scored during the run. Botting added her third goal of the goal of the game followed by scores from sophomore driver Julie Case, junior utility Ani Marganian and Martin.

With a 9-3 lead at halftime, Chapman outscored Vanguard 7-3 in the second half with three of the goals coming from freshman driver Kassy Parker. Three goals tied a career high for Parker who also scored three in a 22-8 win over the Virginia Military Institute on March 10.

In net, freshman Jordan Gilmore and junior Allison Smith split duties with nine and five blocks, respectively.
