Ranked foes spoil water polo's home finale double dip

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's water polo team dropped a pair of games at home on Saturday suffering a 22-2 loss to Division I San Diego State University before falling to Division III's No. 2-ranked University of Redlands 16-11 at the Allred Olympic Pool. The Panthers conclude their home schedule with a record of 9-6 and have already clinched their first winning season since 2004 with one final road match next weekend.

Game 1: San Diego State 22, Chapman 2
The No. 9-ranked Aztecs were no match for the Panthers as the Division I heavyweights scored the first nine goals of the game and limited Chapman (14-11) to just one goal in each half. Freshman 2-meter Anna Price scored the Panthers' first goal of the game late in the second quarter and Chapman trailed 11-1 at halftime. Sophomore utility Juliana Botting added Chapman's second goal early in the third quarter before San Diego State (20-9) closed out the game on a 10-0 scoring streak.

Game 2: Redlands 16, Chapman 11
In a battle of two top-10 Division III teams, the No. 2 Bulldogs pounced on the No. 6 Panthers early and never let up. Redlands scored three quick goals in the first two minutes of the game and led throughout the contest. A goal from Chapman's Botting to open the second quarter cut Redlands' lead to 5-3, but the Bulldogs scored the next four goals and built up a 12-6 lead by the end of the third quarter.

Redlands (15-14) largest lead of the game came with 4:53 left in the fourth quarter as junior 2-meter Jill Stein's sixth goal gave the Bulldogs a 15-7 advantage. Chapman would rally to outscore Redlands 4-1 over the final 3:44 of the game, but it was too little too late for the Panthers.

Freshman utility Riley Ford led Chapman with four goals and junior utility Sam Martin added three of her own. Freshman goalie Kirsten Spicer made eight saves in the first half for the Panthers.
