Three-time winner Martin headlines Chapman All-Americans

ORANGE, Calif. – Senior utility Samantha Martin became the first player in Chapman University women's water polo history to be named to the All-America team three times in her career, headlining three Panthers who earned national honors for the 2013 season.

Martin was joined by freshman utility Alison Quincy and freshman driver Miranda Estrella in earning honorable mention on the Division III All-America team as selected by the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC). The trio marks the second straight year Chapman has had three players named to the ACWPC All-America team, tying a school record.

Martin leaves Chapman as one of its most decorated players in the pool, ranked third in school history with 177 career goals as well as an outstanding team leader. She was second on the team this season with 40 goals and tied a career-high with 21 assists. She added 27 steals in 29 games for the Panthers this spring.

A pair of freshmen, Quincy and Estrella took home their first All-America honors following impressive rookie campaigns. Quincy was Chapman's leader in goals with 42 to go along with 13 assists and 35 steals on defense (third on the team). She scored a career-high five goals in a game against La Verne on April 3 and earned All-SCIAC honors in May.

Meanwhile, Estrella finished third on the Panthers with 30 goals and second with 29 assists. She helped Chapman to a seventh place finish at the SCIAC championships in May with eight goals in the tournament.

Each year, the ACWPC names the top players from all divisions to its All-America teams, including Player of the Year and Coach of the Year awards. The ACWPC also sponsors an All-Academic team for the top scholars in the sport every summer.
