No. 4 women's water polo back in action Saturday

ORANGE, Calif. – After over a month-long layoff, the No. 4-ranked Chapman University women's water polo team will jump back in the pool when it travels to the Cal Lutheran Tournament on March 1-2, after winning its first two contests of the season in convincing fashion.

Following the tournament, the Panthers will host Villanova University (Pa.) in Chapman's home opener March 5 at the Allred Aquatics Center at 4 p.m.

The Panthers kicked off the 2014 season Jan. 26 by sweeping both of their matches in the Redlands tournament, defeating then No. 3-ranked Redlands 10-1 and finishing off the tournament with an 11-1 victory over Cal State San Bernardino.

Chapman was led by junior goaltenders Jordan Gilmore and Kirsten Spicer who each allowed only one goal in the tournament. Spicer finished the tournament with 12 blocks and three steals, while Gilmore blocked 11 shots and had one steal.

On the first day of the Cal Lutheran tournament, Chapman will face off against UC Santa Barbara (5-10) at 9:15 a.m., currently ranked No. 16 in the CWPA Division I rankings. Following that contest, the Panthers will meet Fresno Pacific (2-8) at 3 p.m.

The second day of the tournament will see the Panthers matched up against another ranked Division 1 opponent when they meet Cal State Northridge (9-5) in the tournament finale at 3:30 p.m. Prior to that game, the Panthers will play Sonoma State at 11:45 a.m. All four contests held at the Samuelson Aquatics Center.
