Panthers snap five-game losing streak at Claremont Tournament

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Chapman University women's water polo team snapped its five-game losing streak over the weekend of March 7- 8 at the Claremont Convergence Tournament co-hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Pomona-Pitzer in Claremont, Calif.

On Saturday, Chapman (3-7 overall) snapped its five-game losing streak with a 9-7 victory over Fresno Pacific University. Then extended the Panthers winning streak to two with a 22-3 victory over Caltech that afternoon.

On Saturday, freshman Mary Welton recorded a career-high and tied the CU record with eight assists in one game against Caltech. Freshman Allison Galuszka scored a career-high of five goals and three steals, while sophomore utility Kristie Lee recorded a career-high of four goals in that same game.

On Sunday, Chapman fell 20-6 to No. 15-ranked Long Beach State and dropped its second match of the day 12-11 to George Washington.  

Leading the Panther offense once again was senior utility Riley Ford who finished the weekend with nine goals and nine steals and now ranks fifth all time in CU history for career goals (143) and fourth in career steals (175).  

Senior Kirsten Spicer protected the goal in three of the matches recording 21 blocks while allowing 32 goals.

Chapman looks to break its two-game losing streak on Monday, Mach 9 at 4 p.m. at Allred Aquatics Center against visiting Connecticut College. The Panthers will then travel to Cal Baptist for a Tournament beginging on Friday, March 13.
