Salstrom gets weekly award after debut weekend

ORANGE, Calif. – To start her collegiate career, freshman Sophie Salstrom has been selected as the SCIAC Defensive Athlete of the Week. Salstrom had 16 saves and a pair of steals in her first two matches at Chapman.

Salstrom played every minute in goal of the Panthers' first two matchups. She drew a tough assignment with Division I nationally-ranked opponent LMU the first team on Chapman's schedule. Salstrom had three saves and a steal in her first match.

She made 13 saves and came up with another steal against another Division I opponent, Cal Baptist, to close out opening weekend.

The opening tournament for the season comes about three and a half weeks before the season kicks into high gear. Chapman won't take on another opponent until its home-opener on Feb. 19 against CSUN at 3 p.m. and Toronto at 7 p.m.
