Burton makes 19 saves but water polo falls to CLU

ORANGE, Calif. – The Chapman University women's water polo team fell 12-8 to visiting Cal Lutheran on Saturday. Georgina Burton made 19 saves – just shy of the Chapman record.

Burton made a career-high 19 saves to keep Chapman in the game but Cal Lutheran pulled away in the fourth quarter to break open a back and forth game.

Chapman fell in an early 3-0 hole but quickly climbed out of it to tie the match at 3-3 early in the second quarter. Alyssa Fricker put Chapman on the board and Camille Chiang followed with a first quarter goal to make it 3-2 at the end of the quarter.

Fricker and Chiang went on to each record a hat trick to lead the Panthers offensively. After Fricker tied the match at 3-3, Ameila Bayha put the Panthers in front 4-3 with under two minutes left in the second quarter. The teams traded goals over the early minutes of the third quarter until the score was tied at 6-6.

After tying the match at 6-6, Cal Lutheran continued on a 6-2 run to pull away over the fourth quarter. The Regals went up 9-6 before Chapman responded with a goals from Riley Eaves but scored another three consecutive goals to go up five goals with just under three minutes to play.

The Panthers head to Redlands on Wednesday before returning home next Saturday to take on Whittier at 11 a.m.
